AI’s Impact on Energy

  • Events

Will Artificial Intelligence cause an energy crisis? That dramatic question prompted an engaging discussion during an Oxford Energy Society event on Wednesday, 6 November 2024. Oxford Energy Society is a student society at the University of Oxford for anyone interested in energy and climate change. During the event, Pippa Amanta provided a talk on the direct, indirect, and systemic energy impacts of AI and AI applications. While lots of attention has been given to the direct energy consumption of training and deploying AI models, the talk focuses on the indirect and systemic impacts through the use of AI in various applications in daily life including building, transportation, and web search.
