Charlie Wilson presented new thinking on digitalisation as a potential enabler of a circular economy at an EU policy workshop in Brussels hosted by the Breugel Institute and two other EU projects in which Charlie is involved, CircEUlar and PRISMA. Workshop participants including senior European Commission officials from DG Clima then discussed alternative ‘narrow’, ‘slow’ and ‘close’ strategies for reducing, extending, and recirculating material flows in the economy on the road to net-zero. This emphasis on circularity links to iDODDLE researchers’ interest in digitalisation as a way to help dematerialise consumption practices.
