iDODDLE PI, Charlie Wilson, was part of a fascinating roundtable discussion on AI and Energy convened by the Ditchley Foundation with decision makers from the tech industry, government, political advisory, energy industry, and academia. Topics ranged from (1) the challenges posed by new AI data centres for the UK’s 2030 clean power goals, (2) whether nuclear fission or, in the longer-term, nuclear fusion were viable AI energy resources, and (3) how to contain AI-driven misinformation on heat pumps and electric vehicles as key decarbonisation technologies. AI clearly has both benefits and risks for the energy and decarbonisation landscape – the Ditchley Foundation plan to convene a larger conference in the spring to advise on the role the UK could play.
