At the end of August, Pippa attended the European Sociological Association’s 16th biannual conference in Porto, Portugal. She was among 4000 sociologists from across Europe and beyond who convened to discuss contemporary issues of trust, tensions, and transformation. The theme is pertinent to the issue of digitalisation that is transforming our consumption patterns and ultimately energy consumption.
Pippa presented her PhD research on how households are integrating on-demand digital services in their everyday lives. She highlights how the normalisation of on-demand digital services leads to increased expectations of delivery speed and conveniences. This new norm has resource implications from the last-mile delivery required to fulfil our purchases.
