Grey Swans lecture on AI in Energy Transitions at the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL).

  • News

Charlie Wilson travelled out to The Hague to give a ‘Grey Swans’ lecture on the impacts of AI on energy transitions and how to include this explicitly in global modelling analysis of climate futures. The Dutch Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) hosts one of the leading global integrated assessment frameworks, IMAGE, which is widely used in IPCC and other international climate policy assessments. After the lecture, Charlie met with IMAGE group scientists to flesh out approaches for implementing the direct, indirect, and systemic impacts of AI in global climate modelling. The ‘Grey Swans’ concept plays off the idea of unpredictable low-probability high-consequence ‘black swan’ events … with the grey swans being less unpredictable than their black siblings!
