iDODDLE’s Charlie Wilson and Yee Van Fan from the companion CircEUlar project were interviewed for the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies podcast series on AI and energy. They discussed the main findings of their recent paper published in the Oxford Energy Forum journal, co-written also by iDODDLE’s Pippa Amanta. In the paper and the podcast, they argue that focusing narrowly on concerns about AI data centres’ rapidly growing energy needs is missing the much bigger picture of how and for what AI gets used. This will be much more consequential for energy and carbon emissions globally. These insights were also reported by Oxford University itself as part of a look at the effect of generative AI on its sustainability goals.
