Have you ever made a decision about buying a new technology based on the experiences of someone you know? How much of a role has this played in how risky you perceived the decision to be? An upcoming paper by the iDODDLE team examines these questions at scale. We develop a system dynamics simulation tool to explore how social learning and post-adoption experience shape the trajectory of technology diffusion. Our findings reinforce the importance of considering behavioural dynamics alongside financial factors in the context of low-carbon technology adoption.
