Speaking at BAFTA’s Panel on AI and Environmental Impacts

At the 2025 Media Production & Technology Show, the UK Screen Industry’s largest annual event, Dr Emilie Vrain was invited to speak on a panel hosted by BAFTA’s sustainability organisation called ‘Albert’. Exploring the environmental impact of AI in the Screen Industry, Emilie discussed how AI can amplify existing digital dependencies and highlighted the often-overlooked rebound effects that can lead to increased energy demand. She also emphasised the need for greater transparency in AI-related energy use and cautioned against locking into high-intensity workflows without considering long-term sustainability. The event provided a valuable platform to connect research insights with industry practice.
