Felippa Amanta and Charlie Wilson wrote a Perspective article for Tech Policy Press on the overlooked climate risks of Artificial Intelligence (AI), beyond the energy consumption of data centres. Felippa and Charlie illustrated several examples of how AI risks intersect with risks to climate change mitigation, including misinformation and disinformation risks, cybersecurity risks, and socioeconomic harms. These are just a few examples from a larger set of linkages identified. Recognising these systemic linkages is crucial if we want to align AI development with climate goals.
