Charlie Wilson got on his bike (literally!) to travel out to Laon in France for the ECEEE Conference, lakeside in a Centre Parcs resort – who says academics are permanently glued to their keyboards! Charlie presented iDODDLE work assessing the mechanisms through which digitalisation impacts energy use – both for better and for worse. This combined new visualisations of impact pathways with a meta-analysis of quantitative impacts. For full details, see the paper and presentation slide deck. But for a teaser (and a spoiler): digital applications that clearly substitute for an energy-intensive activity have the largest net energy-saving benefits.
